| I thought a quick introduction on the history of Club Habibi
would be an interesting read for those that are regular visitors of that
beautiful Club. |
| Club Habibi in the virtual world of SL was the brain child of SL resident Azar Kazan. After speaking to her she told me that it was an idea inspired by a club in Cambridge called the “Middle East.” At this club there are live bands, belly dancers and just a whole cultural atmosphere. Her goal was to have a place where people who enjoyed Middle Eastern culture, could hang out and listen to bands. She approached Sam1177 Alito with her idea and it all started from there. |
 |
| Sam1177 Alito was already familiar with the workings of a club since he already owned his own Indian Club called Desi Beatz and was running a successful mini mall of Indian attire underneath the Club. Sam and Azar both started Club Habibi in July of 2007. However, shortly after that they realized that neither of them had the time to run the club properly; hosting events, hiring belly dancers, advertising and everything else that goes with running a successful club can be very time consuming. This is where Noori Noonan stepped in. |
In August of 2007 Noori Noonan stepped in and completely revamped the club raising it up high in the sky, adding more of an ethnic feel with Arabian tents, waterfalls, and she created a new logo for Club Habibi that is still used till this day. Belly dancers were no longer employed at Habibi, to give it more of a “friendly hangout feel” rather than catering to a certain type of audience. Weekly events were held and I, Strawberry Singh, hosted them until the end of October 2007. At that point in time Noori realized that it was time for her to move on and decided to sell the club to Haii Voom. |
 |
 |
Haii Voom is the current owner of Club Habibi and has been since November of 2007. He has changed it drastically from what it once was. After asking Haii what got him interested in purchasing Habibi he told me that he saw a lot of potential in it and was thinking of opening a Middle Eastern place sooner or later so when he heard that Habibi was for sale, he was ready for the challenge. As for what he sees in the future for Habibi, more expansion. He is thinking of getting a whole new sim, the Habibi website, more stores, live concerts, established artists and much more.
Club Habibi has become a hangout for many people, always
turning back there as if it was their second home. There are rarely any events held at Habibi,
yet every time you go you will see it usually filled with friendly and
beautiful people all chatting or belly dancing together.
I have been coming to this beautiful Club since the first
day they opened their doors and I have to tell you I have so many memories
here. I have spent many hours and late
nights here over the year. Club Habibi
will always remain dear to my heart, and I know it’s like that for many people.
